Sofia and Sunny confirmed the lead actors for the movie – Keanu Reeves and Tea Leoni. These two actors had a fresh face, good acting skills and they both had some good acting talent. Rest, Sofia was sure that she can polish them as per the script and Sunny was sure that the shooting will be a lot easier.

With the main leads finally selected, Sunny left to finalise the locations and get his papers done in order to go to New Zealand. All the props and miniature modelling for the monsters needed to be finalised in Weta Workshop.

”Lets choose the location between Massachusetts to Nantucket for outdoor shoots. The recent storm has destroyed over 100 homes or severely damaged many at Marshfield, North Beach, and nearby areas.

We can shoot some transition shots and put some posters there to give the audience a sense of an alien attack and we don even need to get permission for shooting there in this condition. The destroyed homes, broken cars and other things will make the movie more realistic.

We can find the local people there to work as extras and sign them on spot. It will keep the budget low and help in the local shooting. ”

After a lot of thinking and debating, Sofia and Sunny finalised the Massachusetts area as their location for shooting the alien attack scene and for the shots of the forest area.

Sofia took the lead actors along with only a six-member crew and a few extras in two large buses and left for the shooting.

Sunny finally got his visa and passport and left for Weta Workshop.

Outside the airport, someone was waving a large carboard with his name and Sunny soon met the person sent for him. They travelled for more than 4 hours before Sunny could finally reach this future goldmine of visual effects.

”The scenery is really beautiful here and the air is much cleaner than I thought. ” Sunny thought to himself. No wonder the tourism industry will develop better here in future.

”Hello, I am Richard, and this is my wife, Tania. I am surprised someone from the US will come here for visual effects. ” Richard, a tall white man with round glasses shook hands with Sunny.

Richard was very excited about meeting an American Filmmaker and this gave him the idea of attracting American movies or tv show business here.

Weta Workshop is mostly managed by him and his wife along with four other permanent staff that are supplying and creating props for TV series and short film productions. The rest of the staff is on-need basis only.

The workshop was just established four years ago, and they are hardly able to manage to make any profit from it.

Sunny took a tour around the small warehouse cum studio where he saw multiple props and a chroma key setup. Since the 1940s, many films and TV shows have been using Green Screen shooting for visual effects and this technology is very mature now.

”This place truly feels like a visual gallery you have kept so many different props and items just laying around. ” Sunny chuckled looking at the messy but artistic scene inside the studio.

”Well, we have to be ready to deliver key shots in a very small time and hence this is often necessary. Lets talk about your movie. ” Tania said and then Sunny took out a bunch of documents from his bag.

”These are some of the ideas for the monster in my movie. Its an alien but I want it to look large scale monster. Something like a huge dinosaur type but scary. It has to look dangerous and scary.

I don need details as most of the shots of the monster will be at night or in some low visibility area but there are two close-up shots that need to be perfect.

Richard took the sketches and distributed them around the team and then they started to get busy discussing the cost and time it will take for these monster shots.

Sunny cannot afford a high detailed monster because of time and finance constraints and Richard, and the team finally chose to design a tentacle-type monster.

Using a thick few ropes tied with some metallic frames and covered with some slime and paint, it can be moved and shot perfectly in closeups and for large shots, they can use paintings along with miniature models.

”Sunny, I think we can finish these in a week and the best price I can offer is 15,000$ for large-scale shots and paintings and 25,000$ for the close-up shots. ”

After discussing and debating with his team, Richard gave Sunny his price.

Sunny was definitely shocked at the cheap prices they threw but he still maintained a straight face.

”No way Richard, you know I am shooting this movie on a shoestring budget. Please try to understand my position. I hope to do regular business with you guys in future. I think you can definitely cut some costs on those miniature models and paintings. ” Sunny replied.

”Give me an hour and I will come back to you again. ” Richard decided to have a brainstorming session with his team to compress the price as the budget they gave was already a friendly price.

However, the promise of future works was still alluring.

Finally, they decided to give an additional 5% discount on their services.

With an additional 5% discount, Vision studios must pay the full amount of 38,000$ and Sunny called Matthew to help him get a lawyer to sign the agreement.

To make the contract risk-free and legally valid, it must be signed in the presence of the lawyers and the law firm also keeps a video recording of the signing of the contract.

Three days later, multiple large posters and banners were shipped back to Sophia for shooting and the workshop started making the tentacle monster and miniature town design.

Sunny provided his ideas and kept a check on the daily progress, and he was amazed by the creativity and speed of these people.

No doubt, only those who are willing to suffer often succeed in life.
