Destination Determination

——————————-

With the help of Turu, we continued to work on expanding the base for Nomos’ conditions.
It requires a total of 25 blocks to be cleared and divided, and today we finished digging fou blocks and laying rocks.
Including the original base and the designated forest area, we still need to clear 21 more blocks.
The road ahead is long.

After dinner, we had an exciting discussion about finally being able to go to a place with civilization in this new world.

“Yuta, there are a few candidates, but we’re going to act as adventurers, is that okay?”

“Yeah, being an adventurer is probably the safest option for my current situation.”

“That’s right.
Although being a merchant or a mercenary are other options, adventurers are more suited to the task in terms of abilities.”

Merchants are a good option, but mercenaries aren’t.
It seems more troublesome to fight humans than to fight monsters.
Mercenaries in a world where wars are frequent would probably not be a joke.

“So, Sylphy, what are your recommendations?”

“I have two recommendations.
One is the labyrinth city of Eltrose Kingdom, and the other is the town of Sunstone in the Garnet Kingdom.”

A labyrinth city, a city that tickles the imagination.
A labyrinth is a dungeon, right? A high-risk, high-reward city where people pursue vast wealth and fame.
It’s a romantic idea.

“Can you tell me about the features of each place?”

“Yuta, calm down and listen carefully.
Your eyes are shining too much and it’s scary.”

…It seems that when he heard about the labyrinth city, his love for adventure went out of control.
Sylphy is trying to gently pull him back.

“Ahem… I’m calm now.
Please explain.”

“First, there’s the labyrinth city of Eltrose Kingdom.
Labyrinths are places where rare materials and treasures can be found.
It’s a place where wealth and fame gather, but in return, the power structure is complicated due to the pursuit of interests.”

“The complicated power structure and the smell of trouble are concerning.”

“For example, the country, nobles, church, adventurer guild, and commercial guild all fight for interests.
However, since it’s also an important source of revenue for the country, it’s the last place to be involved in a war.
It’s also known as the City of Greed.”

So the labyrinth city is also known as the City of Greed… It sounds troublesome, but I’m attracted to the idea of a fulfilling nightlife.
It’s a city where many rough and wealthy people gather.
It meets the criteria for a town that Nomos mentioned with a thriving nightlife.

“Despite the troubles, why do you recommend the labyrinth city?”

“Well, despite the complications, if you show your strength, it’s a place where you can live comfortably because the most valuable thing there is to earn money in the labyrinth.”

“What about my strength?”

“Well, you’ll need to learn the basics of labyrinth exploration, but your strength should be enough to handle it normally.
If you’re willing to use our powers for attacks, there’s nothing you can’t do.”

…It’s a difficult decision.
Although I am fascinated by the idea, I won’t truly enjoy myself if I have to rely on spirits to carry me around.
If all I have to do is defeat the attacking enemies, it seems like a leisurely stroll to the bottom of the labyrinth.

It might be financially beneficial, but to truly enjoy life, a certain level of restrictions is necessary.
I want to fight using my own strength as much as possible.
If it gets tough or troublesome, I may ask for help from Bell and the others, but if my strength is enough, the labyrinth city is a good option.

“I’m just worried that if I show my strength, I’ll get caught up in the fight for power among the ruling class.”

“I see.
So if you don’t stand out, you won’t be recruited, but if you show your skills, you might get recommended.
And if you have any problems, the Adventurer’s Guild will take care of it.
They can’t afford to lose talented individuals.”

“That’s right.
The other option is the town of Sunstone in the Garnet Kingdom.
It’s a peaceful place that doesn’t get involved in wars since the kingdom is a major power.
The surrounding monsters aren’t too strong, so it’s a good place to earn a moderate income while enjoying the life of an adventurer.”

I see.
The second option is also appealing.
It’s like choosing between pursuing a career in showbiz or aiming for a stable government job.

Nothing stands out about Sunstone, but it’s the perfect place to live a laid-back life.

“I’m attracted to both options, so I’m having a hard time deciding.”

“Well, you don’t have to choose just one, you know.
Why not consider both options?”

“Ah, right.
I could visit both places.
The question now is which one to visit first.
I think it’s safer to get used to this world in a peaceful town before going to the labyrinth city, but I’m also drawn to the idea of exploring the labyrinth city.”

Well, if you’re given the option to choose your first destination, then you should take advantage of this opportunity in this fantasy world.
It wouldn’t be manly or courageous to settle for the easy path.
Nightlife has nothing to do with it.

“Okay, I’ve made up my mind.
I’ll go to the labyrinth city.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I want to make the most of it.
How long does it take to get to the labyrinth city from here?”

“Ah, I see you’ve decided on the labyrinth city.
Got it.
It takes about four hours to get there without Bell and the others.
With them, it will take twice as long.”

So even carrying me, the great spirit is twice as fast as a lesser spirit.
You’re amazing, Great Spirit.

“Then, it would be best for Bell and the others to arrive there first by summoning.”

“Yes, that way they can get there faster.”

If it takes about four hours, I can easily come back here frequently, so I’ve decided on the labyrinth city.

Tomorrow we’ll have to harvest the Forest Radish, but it won’t take too long.
We can have breakfast with the harvested vegetables and depart by midday, arriving in the city by afternoon.
I can’t wait, so tomorrow is good for departure.

But I feel like I’m forgetting something.
Something important happened, but I can’t remember…

“Well, Sylphy, how about we have breakfast with the harvested vegetables tomorrow and then head to the labyrinth city? Oh, right, I almost forgot that I promised to treat you to alcohol from my world if we could make a contract.”

Suddenly, something that was bothering me came to mind.
That was close.
I can’t neglect my promise to treat them.

“Oh, good thing you remembered.
Nomos was a little worried about it yesterday.”

“I had a lot on my mind, so I forgot.
Let’s do the expansion work after the harvest tomorrow and have some drinks at night.
We won’t have a big party, but we’ll serve the alcohol that was used in cooking and the alcohol that was made in a foreign country in my world.
We’ll leave for the labyrinth city the day after tomorrow.”

I really want to go to the labyrinth city as soon as possible, but I can’t neglect my obligations to those who have helped me.
Speaking of which, I haven’t even had anything yet.
I guess I’m a little stressed out.

“Well, that sounds good.
I’m looking forward to it.
I’ll let Dyne, Nomos, and Dolly know,” Sylphy said, looking excited.

“Thanks, I appreciate it.”

Sylphy seems to be in high spirits too.
Come to think of it, both Sylphy and Dyne were excited about the alcohol from my world.
Well, if it puts them in a good mood, that’s fine.
I should have bought more alcohol, though.

From my perspective, buying three bottles of various kinds was already a huge purchase, but things change when you’re in a different world.
Even if I bought out the entire store, it wouldn’t be enough.
But I don’t have that kind of money.

“If I had known I was coming to another world, I would have spent all my savings on shopping… my savings… it’s making me want to cry.”

As I looked at my hard-earned savings, I started feeling lonely, missing my family and friends.
I guess not having a significant other is a blessing in disguise.

“It’s alright.
If you don’t have any questions, you seem tired, Yuta.
It’s better for you to rest now,” Sylphy said, noticing my sudden change in mood.

I feel sad, but her words were comforting.
I guess I’ll take her advice and go to bed now.

“Okay, I will.
Good night, Sylphy.”

“Good night, Yuta.”

I said goodbye to Sylphy and went back to my bedroom.
I felt a bit lonely and started to cry.
I guess I’m homesick.
There’s nothing I can do about it, so I’ll try to think about the Labyrinth City.
Dreams, hopes, and the great epic of love and desire await me there.

—————-

“We got a harvest!”

“Harvest!”

“Kyu kyu kyu.”

“Harvest.”

“Kuu kuu kuu.”

Lately, I’ve started shouting like crazy every time there’s an event in the morning.
It’s easygoing since there’s no one here except for the familiar spirits.
The great spirits don’t participate, but Dyne seems to want to join in, so I might hear her voice among my morning shouts.

“Dolly, is there anything we should be careful about during the harvest?”

“Well, let me see.
To harvest them without breaking the plants, pull them straight up from the ground with gentle force.
It’s also a good idea to decide how many plants to leave for seed harvesting,” she explained.

“I want to leave some for seeds… let’s keep three plants,” I replied.

We decided which three plants to leave and started the harvest using the same rules as last time with the Oil Leafs.
I’ve already obtained Oil Leafs, and I’ll be able to go to the Labyrinth City tomorrow, so I don’t feel as rushed as last time.
Still, I’m excited about the harvest.

We entered the field, gathered the vibrant Forest Radish leaves together at the base, and pulled them straight up.
With a “plop”, it came out easier than I thought.
What came out of the soil looked like a Japanese daikon, thinner than what I’m used to, but it looked tasty enough.

Bell and the other spirits started to harvest as they pleased.
Bell took the leaves and pulled them straight up, successfully pulling out the Forest Radish.
She must have enjoyed the feeling of pulling them out, as she spun around in joy.

“Yuta! I got it!” Bell flew over with a sparkling smile, carrying the Forest Radish she had harvested.
I praised her and stored it away.

“Is it fun, Bell?” I asked.

“Yeah! It makes a ‘zubotto’ sound.
It’s fun!” Bell replied, excitedly flapping her limbs.

“I’m glad.
Bring back a lot of them, okay?”

“Okay!”

Bell happily went back to harvesting, dancing to the rhythm of the process.
Rain was using a technique to harvest since it was difficult to hold with his fins.
She created a donut-shaped water and washed the soil away from the base of the Forest Radish, securing it.
That was a clever idea.
She happily harvested them and brought them over with a cheerful “kyukyu”.

Turu and Tamamo used magic to harvest, which seemed very easy.
In Turu’s case, the soil avoided him, and in Tamamo’s case, the Forest Radish seemed to come out of the ground on its own.
Magic is amazing.
They both seemed to be enjoying themselves when they brought them over to me.

After we finished harvesting, like last time, Rain cleaned the vegetables for us.
What should I make with them? I’ll definitely make daikon radish salad, but I don’t have any sesame oil.
I like to stir-fry the daikon leaves with sesame oil, but I don’t have any.

I don’t have any dried hot peppers for pickling, but I’ll try making it with powdered salt and kelp.
If I don’t mess up the seasoning, it should turn out okay.

Stewed dishes are the basics, but I don’t have enough ingredients for burdock root and daikon stew or Japanese-style hot pot.
When I go to the Labyrinth City, I’ll try to find what I can use by visiting shops.
For now, I want to get some oil that can be used for stir-frying.
