Gu Nian was baffled as she touched the top of her own head, seeming still be able to feel the warmth from earlier.

Her precious son was kind, simple, and personable.
She thought people like that always loved making friends and being around others and would love to be surrounded by many friends and families on his birthday.

Nevertheless, it would appear that…

Gu Nian looked up hesitantly and glanced over into the middle of the room.
Half leaning against the table, the man was sloshing the champagne in the glass in his hand.
His eyes were languid and there was a hint of a smile on him.

The couple actresses that were sitting next to him and chatting with him all had bright smiles on them and their waists twisted and turned like water snakes.

“Hey there, the mastermind behind tonight, why are you hiding in a corner all by your lonesome?”

Gu Nian felt the couch depressed next to her.
She turned and looked back away while letting out a grunt languidly when she saw that it was Jiang Xiaoqing

“What’s the matter? You don’t seem like you are enjoying this.” Jiang Xiaoqing had a great time.
Nudging her on her shoulder, she said to Gu Nian, “I didn’t think you would be able to get so many from the production team to come.
Such is the power of motherly love.
You must have put a lot of effort into this.
So why aren’t you happy?”

“I am not unhappy.
It’s just that…”

“What is it?”

Gu Nian took a sip of her lemon juice and said in a low voice, “I feel that my precious son didn’t seem too happy about what I had planned tonight.”

“Eh? That doesn’t make any sense.
What young people doesn’t like to be the center of attention nowadays – well, with the exception of a weirdo like you.”

Jiang Xiaoqing turned and looked for Luo Xiu.

She said after two seconds, “Look, Luo Xiu is smiling.
He seemed engaged in the conversation with that actress.”

“Mmm.”

“I’ve got to say.
Your precious son is certainly a handsome one.”

“Hmm?”

The subject was changed abruptly and Gu Nian looked up, at loss.
Before she could even see the look on Jiang Xiaoqing, she had already leaned in onto her and blew into her eyes with her breath that smelled like alcohol.
“Look at his ankle.”

“?”

Gu Nian looked over reflexively as she was asked.

Luo Xiu had on a casual suit today.
The way he was leaning against the table, his dark blue pant leg rose up a little and a patch of his fair and defined ankle could be seen and it was very sexy.

Jiang Xiaoqing, “That definition.
Oh boy.
Oh boy.
He is so amazing that even I want to marry him!”

“— —?”

Gu Nian’s proud mother look lasted less than a second.
It was crushed when she heard the very last thing coming out of Jiang Xiaoqing.

She turned and looked at her expressionlessly.
“No, you are too love-struck way too often.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “That’s so not true! I am very loyal to handsome boys!”

“Yes.
You are always loyal to the handsomest one; and the handsomest one is always a different person.
Am I right?”

Jiang Xiaoqing gave her a shy look.
“Oh, how do you know me so well?”

“… You stay away,” said Gu Nian ruthlessly.
“No unfaithful women are allowed near my precious son.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “But your son is different.
Have you seen anyone handsomer than him? If not, then he will always be the one for me!”

“… …”

Old Mother Gu was silenced.

Handsomer than her precious son? That was, obviously, impossible.
Her precious son was the handsomest one under the sun as well as the cutest!

Gu Nian nodded, “You have good taste.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “Does that mean I can…”

Gu Nian, “That’s still a no.”

Jiang Xiaoqing, “??? Why not?”

Gu Nian looked her up and down expressionlessly, “Foolish, Fair, and Sweet will affect the quality of my precious son’s offspring.”

Jiang Xiaoqing “… …”

Jiang Xiaoqing was on a roll.
Looking at Gu Nian with a wronged look and teary eyes, she said, “So this is how it is, huh? You had hide it so well all along.
Now that your son is in question, I finally find out what you truly think of me! Hrmph! That’s it! Our friendship ends right here right now!”

“Stop being silly.” Gu Nian pulled down her hand as she suppressed her urge to laugh out loud.
“You keep being silly, you will really have a hard time getting married.”

“Forget about your son then.
I will take your instead, my lovely little beauty!”

“No, no, no.
Stop, stop, stop — –”

Translator’s rambling:

To my dear readers of MWBY.
Please check out my newest pet project The Greatest Astrologist.
It is a novel that is quite different than my usual ones but, I insist that if you are a reader of MWBY, then naturally you get me.
😉 So do hop over, take a look, and let me know what you think whether you like it, dislike it, or feel neutral about it.

Here’s my one-line blurb on the novel:

The greatest astrologist of her time had transmigrated into a novel with a switch-at-birth trope as the real daughter.
Worry not, this is not “another” one of those transmigration novel.
Our MC cares more about astrology than faceslapping cannon fodders or becoming the heir of the family fortune!
