Xiaoman's Hobby Class (2)

There were often rows of training institutes outside of universities, middle schools and primary schools.
It wasn’t a weird sight to see.

At the school’s gate, there were often people from those training institutes distributing flyers to attract more customers.

Jiang Xiumei always came to pick up her child, undeterred by the wind or rain.
The barkers had noticed her a long time ago.

They thought that they should be able to get some business from her.

So, someone approached her to ask, “Big Sister, here to pick up a child?”

Jiang Xiumei glanced at him warily and ignored him.

“I also have a child who goes to school here.
It’s so burdensome to send children to school.
It worries me every day until I cannot sleep.”

The conversation was established.

Jiang Xiumei proudly said, “It’s no burden.
My child is very well-behaved.
She’s clever and smart, there’s nothing to worry about at all.”

“Aiya? That’s good! Nowadays, children’s education costs so much, right? English conversation lessons, cram school, lectures by famous teachers, math Olympics… they all cost money.”

Jiang Xiumei did not understand.
“What is math Olympics?”

“It’s… studying questions that would be useful when they go to university! Don’t you know it? My kids learn them too.”

Jiang Xiumei smiled and said, “Oh, then it’s not necessary.
My child does her homework by herself.
You don’t even need to force her to do it, it’s like she can’t stop doing it!”

Such a kid exists?!?!

The man was shocked.

There were many tutoring classes in the institute.

Every time those naughty kids were taught to do their homework, it was like half their life dissipated.

The classroom was usually noisy, and no matter which tutor came,it didn’t make any difference.
It was hell on earth.

There was a child who would do their homework without being told to?

Did such a child really exist?

Oh, that was someone else's child.

After a while, he reluctantly continued his sales pitch with a distressed look.
“You don’t need to worry about tutoring for lessons, but how about culture and art? Your child is definitely not good at it, right? There are piano lessons, ballet, violin… so many of them.
Sigh, children nowadays are under a lot of pressure.
They have to study from morning to late evening every day, from dawn to dusk.
And if they don’t study, then it will be difficult to keep up with others in the future.”

“…Students nowadays still need to study those too?” Jiang Xiumei was surprised.

When Jiang Yue went to school, she didn’t learn these kinds of things! Why were there so many things to learn now?

“Of course! It’s quality education after all, you have to keep up! Otherwise, if they’re only good at solving questions, won’t they just be a nerd later? If they don’t have a lot of skills, how could they survive in society?”

Jiang Xiumei panicked.

She was an old woman and didn’t have a lot of experience.
But she knew that you could never have enough skills; it was always better to know more things.

Jiang Xiumei was afraid that Jiang Xiaoman would be left behind, and she wanted to give her the best  if possible.

“Come, let me see, what courses are there?” Jiang Xiumei took his leaflet and began to look.

She must choose the most useful course for her child to learn.

“There are many hobby classes in our institute, the students in this school basically all go to us.
No matter what class you want to take, we offer them.
We also have free trials.”

The man brought her to the institute building and pointed to the row behind, “These are our classrooms.”

There were other institutes next to them, but they didn’t belong to his group so he didn’t introduce them.

On the leaflet, all kinds of lessons that the children could learn were shown.

Jiang Xiumei got dizzy choosing them.
When there was anything she didn’t understand, she would point to the picture and ask what they were for and what was studied in the class.

The two were talking at the door, and she could occasionally see some children who were picked up by their parents after exiting the school.
But instead of going home, they turned and entered the institute’s classroom.

“……” It seemed that there were quite a number of people who came to the hobby classes.

At first she still thought that it was some kind of scam, but it looked like it was true.

Jiang Xiumei lowered her guard and became more determined.
She had to choose a useful hobby class for Xiaoman.

What the other children had, their Xiaoman must also have!

But she wasn’t satisfied with the options.

Singing? Piano? Xiaoman could not carry a note for her life; she probably wouldn’t like such a class.

Dancing? That kid was definitely agile when it came to dodging her fists, but Jiang Xiumei didn’t know if Xiaoman would like it or not.

Riding? Horse riding? What kind of hobby class was this? Back in the village, they could ride horses anytime they wanted; they actually had to pay here?

After thinking about it, Jiang Xiumei decided to wait and ask for Xiaoman’s opinion first.

While Jiang Xiumei was still struggling on choosing a hobby class, she saw a group of children walking together and enter a building next to her.

They were wearing the same uniform and holding the same tool – a nunchaku.

It looked very powerful, really good for scaring people away.

Jiang Xiumei looked at them and her eyes brightened.
She finally knew what hobby class to choose for Xiaoman!

She put down the leaflet and followed the group of children to the building next door.

“…” The harvest went to the wrong basket.

So when Jiang Xiumei came home that evening, she was holding a thick pile of institute leaflets.

There was taekwondo, boxing, judo, fencing, Wing Chun, fighting… All kinds of hobby classes were there.

“Come, see which one you like.
Tell Grandma.
This weekend, we’ll go and see it together.
Let’s learn the one you like.”

Jiang Xing and Jiang Xiaoman turned over the leaflets with interest, then they went silent while looking at each other.

Jiang Xing was clutching his dried up wallet.
His eyes turned dark and he almost fainted.

Jiang Xiaoman touched her little head.
Although she didn’t know what was going on, the options all looked so amazing.
Her eyes also went dark and she almost fainted.
