Soon I arrived at the entrance to the lake, tired and worried about Sofie. I push past the vines, but I didn see anyone there; how could I be wrong? I smelt her in these woods, and I smelt the lake water, so she has to be here. My thoughts were racing too fast for me to hold on to them and focus. I was close to breaking down until I heard something move in the water; it was Sofie. She didn seem to notice me as I slowly walked closer to her. If I scare her, she might run away again, especially since shes trying to stay away from me. I crept into the water and grabbed her from behind, burying my face into her shoulder.

” Don ever try this shit again. No matter where you go, Im gonna come looking for you, because I know that you need me just as much as I need you, ” I whispered. I couldn see her face, but I could hear her sniffling; she was crying. Whimpering, she replied saying, ” I already caused problems with you and your friend; what do you think is gonna happen when she and your pack finds out Im a Shadow Wolf? ” ” I don give a damn what happens, ” I retorted, ” To hell with all of them. I don care about how they react; all I care about is that Im with you. In less than five days, youve managed to become the most important person in my life, and I refuse to let you go. ” She turned around and curled into my chest; for the next few minutes, it was quiet while I held her in my arms as she cried.

After the time passed, we walked back to the lakes bank, Sofie got dressed, and we sat against a tree. ” Bond with me. That way, we can keep tabs on each other, ” Sofie stated. Werewolf couples have this kind of ritual to create a bond; it allows you to know your partners location, emotional state and physical condition. Most couples our age don bond with each other because bonds are permanent and a one-time thing, which means that even if you break up with your partner, you
e still bonded to them, and you
e unable to bond with your new partner. I looked into Sofies eyes, and I saw more than just my girlfriend. I felt that what we had was already stronger than any bond, so I had no problem saying yes. The ritual of creating the bond could only be done at night, and since my second Alpha Trial was tonight, we would have to do it tomorrow night.

We spent the rest of the day at the lake, and then I went to the pack meeting place. With everything that was going on, I forgot about which trial I was about to face. I quickly remembered when I heard the growling; I have to tame a starved wolf. Everyone was chanting and shouting until my father walked out of his cabin and yelled, ” Open the cage! ” As soon as I opened the cage, the wolf leapt at me and pinned me to the ground. I grabbed it by its jaw and flipped it over me so that I could roll over and face it.

Both the wolf and I were on all fours, face to face, rotating in circles. I watched it as it snarled at me; something inside me shifted, and I let out a mighty roar. Everything and everyone fell silent, and I glowed my eyes and stared the wolf down into submission. After I commanded the wolf to return to the forest, I looked around only to see my entire pack, except my father, bowing and trembling, out of respect, not fear. I turned to face my father as he said,
